Pool Rules & Regulations

1. No running around the pool deck area.

2. No head-first diving on the shallow side of the line across the pool.

3. Diving board

  • Only one bounce is allowed before leaving the board.

  • Diver may not dive until last diver and all swimmers are clear of the area and to the ladder.

  • No diving to either side of the board.

  • No back flips.

  • No diving with large flotation devices or onto a flotation device.

  • Learning swimmers must be actively supervised by a swim safe caregiver in the pool.

4. No large flotation devices that can flip or cause injury against the side of the pool (or obstruct the lifeguard’s view of swimmers).  Flotation devices can be used on days when the pool is not crowded.  Lifeguard may ask you to remove the device if they are not comfortable with it in the pool at any time.

5. No food, gum, or alcoholic beverages can be consumed while in the pool, and no glass around the pool deck area.

6. Babies and baby pool:

  • Adults must accompany ALL children in the baby pool.  No children allowed in baby pool area without an adult.

  • Swim diapers are required for babies and toddlers.

  • No nude swimming.

  • If there is pool contamination:

    • Scoop up solid waste and discard.

    • Post sign indicating “Pool Closed for Emergency Cleaning.”

    • Notify the Pool Director so they can service the pool the first thing the next morning.

    • Have the gatekeeper assist with notifying lifeguards and gatekeepers for the remainder of the day or following day.

    • Have the gatekeeper notify any parties that are scheduled.

7. Cool Weather Policy

  • If the temperature is below 68 degrees when lifeguards arrive, they are to open pool and assume it will warm up unless the forecast says it will never reach 68 degrees during the day.  Lifeguard supervisor will make the final call on whether the pool will open.

  • If the pool opened when temperature was less than 68 degrees but it seems that the cool weather will continue and no one is at the pool and there is no party scheduled, lifeguards are to consult with lifeguard supervisor and, if in agreement, place a “POOL CLOSED DUE TO COOL WEATHER” sign on the outside gate, record temperature, call all future gatekeepers for the day and write pool closed in the comments column of the guest book.

  • If it is late in the day and the temperature drops below 65 degrees and no one is at the pool and there is no party scheduled, lifeguards are to consult with the gatekeeper and proceed as mentioned above.

8. The pool is not open for swimming unless a lifeguard and a gatekeeper are both present.

9. Swim Competency and Swim Test
Children who are not able to swim safely on their own, in either the shallow or deep end, may use water wings or other flotation devices in the pool. They must be actively supervised by a parent, older sibling(14 years or older), or caregiver who is able to effectively assist them in the pool. They may use the diving board only if there is a swim safe caregiver in the pool with them.

In order to swim without parental supervision, children must be at least ten(10) years of age and pass all of the following tests:

  • Swim the length of the pool twice using any stroke

  • Tread water for one minute

  • Bob across the width of the pool

Once the swim test is passed, the lifeguard will email membership@oakgroveswim.com the name of the child and the Membership Director will update (-passed mm/dd/yy) after the child’s name in the family membership profile on the club computer system indicating the date that the child passed the test.

10. Rest Periods

  • Ten minutes at the hour.

  • Lifeguard shall signal beginning and end of each rest period.

  • No contact with the water by ineligible swimmers during rest period.

  • Adults are allowed in the pools during rest periods.

  • At 6:00 PM:

    • If there are adults swimming laps, the rest period is 20 minutes.

    • If there are no adults in the pool the rest period is 10 minutes.

11. Lifeguard Certification

Our Lifeguards are all certified by the American Red Cross and are trained to comply with the Red Cross lifesaving protocols. At our pool, the guards typically work alone, and therefore may possibly request assistance from members to help clear the pool if a rescue is needed. Per Red Cross protocol, they are trained to blow the whistle and clear the pool before performing a rescue. Members may be asked to help clear the pool so the Lifeguard may quickly help the swimmer in distress.

12. Animals

Animals are not allowed on the premises unless they are service animals.

13.  Alcohol Policy

As a family oriented swim club we ask our members to follow these Alcohol use guidelines:

  • Members over 21 may bring and consume their own alcohol in moderation and with discretion (it should not be obvious to a child that you are drinking alcohol)
  • Discretion means: All beer/cider cans must be in a koozie, all wine must be in a cup not a wine glass (even if it is plastic), etc.
  • If a Member is not in control and unable to supervise themselves, family members and/or guests then they may be asked to leave the pool area for safety.
  • Kegs and drinking games of any kind are not allowed.
  • No glass bottles allowed in the pool area.
  • Holding a drink while in the pool is not allowed.

14. Heated Pool

The pool is covered overnight and heated to 86 degrees during the swim season.  On days when outside temperature is over 95 degrees several days in a row, the cover may be left off at night in order for the pool to not get too hot.
